The strangest NFT: A young man sells his ‘soul’ as an NFT

The world of NFTs and cryptocurrencies is booming. This week, the incorporation of Leo Messi, the Paris Saint Germain and Argentina national soccer team player, has been announced as an ambassador of Socios.com for the next three years. To welcome him to this world has been more than 200 million euros.
In the meantime, the news keeps flowing. Among the strangest curiosities and NFTs of the week, one of the most talked-about is everything surrounding a young man who has decided to sell his ‘soul’ as an NFT. This is Stijn van Schaik, a 21-year-old art student who has already secured a buyer for the NFT in question.
The name chosen for the NFT is Soul of Stinus. The image is based on a photograph of Stinus himself, the nickname of the creator of this peculiar initiative. The chosen description is striking: “Hello person, you are currently looking at a soul. For now, it is mine. Who knows what will happen once it is fully loaded on the blockchain. What does it mean for a soul to be decentralized? Let’s find out.”
The initiative’s success has been such that the sale of the ‘soul’ has already taken place in exchange for 0.11 wETH (Wrapped Ether); this equates to just over $377. The payment and transfer to its new holder have been recorded on the Polygon blockchain.
The NFT, therefore, is already owned by its new owner and could already start to profit from it. In fact, in the last few hours, another interested party has bid 0.15 wETH, just over $500, for it.
For the time being, the original owner of the “soul” that has been sold as NFT has not explained what has motivated him to take this decision. Undoubtedly, the case attracts a lot of attention and could serve as a kick-off for other Internet users to start “self-substituting” on the blockchain.
